PERU´s Rain Forest.

PERU holds 84 of a world system of 103 natural life zones. Protected natural areas are one of the essential components of a sound policy for sustainable development. These area shelter a great biological diversity, contain outstandingly beautiful landscapes, as well as unique and first class historian and cultural expressions of great value for humanity.

The National System of Protected Areas is conformed by a network of 56 natural protected area, covering approximately 10% of the Peruvian territory.

The objective is to contribute to the sustainable development of the country through an efficient management of its resources which guarantees environmental, social and financial benefits to the society.

This objective will be achieved via the strengthening and development of the managerial and institutional performance, formalizing its legal regulatory framework, mutually beneficial relationship with the local communities and an effective inter-institutional coordination mechanism in order to motivate national awareness on the close links between Protected Natural areas and development.
